Primary Sclerosing Cholangitis (PSC) - Online Support Group

We are patients living with primary sclerosing cholangitis (PSC), here for you!

Hi Folks,

I was diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis over 10 years ago when I was 22. I have never had any surgery as of yet for it and it's been in "remission" for quite sometime. My colitis when diagnosed was classified as mild. As of now I don't take any medications for it. I just deal with the cramping etc, when it does rear its head once in awhile.

At the time of diagnosis 10 years ago, my liver chemistry was very abnormal. I had weekly blood tests for months and still the liver functions were abnormal. My gastroenterologist said at the time it "could be" PSC so I was given Urso to take which cost me an arm and a leg at the time. He never did any CT scans, biopsies or anything. I had taken Urso for a number of months as directed. Blood tests were still going on and suddenly they were coming back at normal levels. Tests continued and they were at or near normal levels. The Urso was stopped by the Gastro and I resumed back to normal activities.

Here I am today in 2011 and things aren't too bad. However, I have been having some uncomfortable feelings in my right rib cage lately and I plan to see my GP when they reopen this upcoming week. I plan on having some blood work done.

I've done more reading into PSC lately because I have never forgotten when my Gastro said I could have it. I am interested in reading about peoples tales who currently have PSC or are dealing with family members who are suffering from it. I look forward to hearing about more of you. Happy New Year!

Colin,

That is GREAT news.  Glad to hear it.  That said, make sure you follow up.  If I've learned one thing from my experience with PSC, its that docs can be wrong and you should listen to what your body tells you.  Make sure that gall bladder is ok.

Thanks for the support, man.  We appreciate it.

Hi guys just an update. Finally saw my GP today. He did a physical exam looking for any swelling in the liver area and took a stehascope *sp*? to me and said my liver was fine. The pain coming from my ribcage he said was due to my work. I work for a winery and there is a lot of lifting and strain in the day to day activities. This made sense. Gave me a muscle relaxant to take and told me to see him in a week if the pain isn't subsiding. He said there's a remote possibility it could be my gall bladder acting up as well. Comes with the territory when you have a poor high fat diet. Anyhow I must say you are all an inspiration and glad to see a lot of positive vibes here. Will definately keep reading here. Take care.
